If you are planning a holiday in Italy, Sicily will be probably the first place that will come to your mind thinking on where to spend a few days by the sea. You are absolutely right, since the island hosts some of the most beautiful beaches of Europe.
To day we want to take you on a trip on the West coast, the smallest one of the island, but yet a stretch of land with an unbelievable density of beautiful spots for a day at the beach.
1. Mondello beach
We are in Palermo and the beach is to Mondello. One of the “trendy” beaches for those staying in the city and surrounding areas. The area is a little windy, so it is beloved by windsurfers. Walking on the seaside you’ll have the chance to admire the charming Art Nouveau style villas, built here between the end of 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, along with the Antico Stabilimento Balneare, one of the landmarks of the city.
2. San Vito Lo Capo beach
We are in San Vito Lo Capo. The beach that follows the coastline is characterized by fine sand and clear water. Three kilometers of coastline that looks like a Caribbean landscape, especially when the beach is not crowded (we suggest a visit in June or September). The seabed slopes down very slowly and so the beach of San Vito Lo Capo is suitable for families with children.
3. Barcarello beach
Barcarello beach is right next to the Nature Reserve of Capo Gallo, near Palermo. From here on the horizon the solhouette of Isola delle Femmine is clearly visible. In addition, the sea is crystal clear and you can enjoy the calm and the atmosphere of an unspoilt streatch of coast without going too far from the city.
4. Marinella di Selinunte
A long sandy beach in the western part of Sicily, situated in a bay between the mouth of the river Selino, near the ‘Acropolis of Selinunte and the mouth of the river Belice. In the eastern part of the Marinella beach stretches for 5 km to the promontory of Porto Palo di Menfi.
5. Eraclea Minoa
The Eraclea Minoa beach is located in the province of Agrigento, on the southern coast of Sicily. The feature that stands out immediately in the eyes is the fine white sands of the bay. White as the rock wall that marks a coast side.
